Toronto Fire Services rescues child in Two Alarm fire

This morning at 12:26 a.m., Toronto Fire Services responded to a Two Alarm fire
at 6 Rutherford Ave., a two-story walk-up in the city’s west end. Firefighters
acted quickly to rescue an 18-month-old child from the unit. In so doing, one
firefighter sustained a broken ankle in the rescue effort. A civilian and a
police officer assisted the mother of the child out the back of the unit down a
fire escape.

Both mother and child are listed in critical condition at this time.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the fire.
