City to test and seal meters in taxicabs

City Council has approved a taxi fare rate increase of approximately 10 per
cent. This is the first increase since April, 2003. All meters in Toronto's
5,000 taxicabs will need to be recalibrated, tested and sealed.

Taxi drivers should bring their vehicles for meter testing and sealing to
Exhibition Place, Parking Lot E, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m, Monday to Friday,
November 14-25. No meter testing will take place at the City's Test Facility
(843 Eastern Ave.) until November 28, except for taxis brought in for scheduled
inspections.

To reach Exhibition Place from the east, go west along the Gardner Expressway
to the Spadina/Lakeshore cutoff and follow the signs for Lakeshore Boulevard.
Take Lakeshore Boulevard to the Princes' Gates, just west of Strachan Avenue.
From the west, take the Gardner Expressway east to Lakeshore Boulevard or
Jameson Avenue. There are three entrance points to Exhibition Place from
Lakeshore Boulevard: British Columbia Drive, Ontario Drive and Newfoundland
Drive.
