Launch of the Bicycle Friendly Business Awards

Tuesday, August 2 to Friday, August 5 marks the official launch of the City of
Toronto's Bicycle Friendly Business Awards (BFBAs). These awards are given out
annually to businesses and other organizations in Toronto that support and
encourage cycling. Businesses that promote cycling help the City to achieve the
goal of the Toronto Bike Plan -- to double the number of bicycle trips made in
the city by 2011. Along with the BFBAs, this year the City is launching a
program called the Bicycle Friendly Recognition Program. Businesses that meet
the criteria for being bicycle friendly will be recognized by the City, given a
decal to display in their window and sign a three year pledge to be bike
friendly.

City of Toronto Cycling Ambassadors will be delivering hundreds of BFBA
nomination forms to bicycle shops and community centres across the city by
cargo bicycle. Pick up a form and nominate a business today. The deadline to
submit a nomination for this year's Bicycle Friendly Business Awards is Friday,
September 9 at 5 p.m.

Judges for this year's awards include:

  • City Councillors Olivia Chow, Paula Fletcher, Adam Giambrone, Cliff
Jenkins, Joe Mihevc, Joe Pantalone, Maria Augimeri, Sylvia Watson
  • Dr. Quentin Chiotti, Air Programme Director and Senior Scientist,
    Pollution Probe
