Montgomery’s Inn Celebrates Canada Day with Tea And Silent Auction Fundraiser

Montgomery’s Inn, a City of Toronto historic museum, is holding a major
fundraising event in support of the Inn’s culinary heritage programs on Canada
Day, July 1, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Funds will be raised through a silent auction
featuring everything from cookbooks to kerosene lanterns, framed artwork, wine,
restaurant gift certificates, gala theatre tickets, a winemaking kit, and
handmade jewellery.

This year monies raised will go toward the restoration of the Inn’s original
1830 bake oven, a key component in public and student programming and central
to the new historic cooking course offered through George Brown College.

Auction items will be on display at the Inn beginning June 17th. Bidding will
close Friday, July 1 at 4 p.m. Winners will be announced in the Community room
at 4:15 p.m., and will be contacted by telephone if they are not in attendance
at that time. Items may be viewed online at www.montgomerysinn.com and bidding
forms are available online, by fax, e-mail or regular mail.

Concurrent with this event, the Inn’s Tearoom will host its popular Canada Day
Tea with a menu featuring strawberries atop fresh whipped cream and delicious
homemade tea biscuit shortcake. Visitors may also choose to purchase a fancy
sandwich plate with pinwheel sandwiches, crudités and cheese. Each dish costs
$4. Tea is included for $6. Freshly baked breads will also available for
purchase throughout the afternoon.

Montgomery’s Inn is located at the southeast corner of Islington and Dundas
Street West. Restored to 1847, the Inn remains a meeting place where visitors
share stories of immigration, travel, neighbourhoods and culture. The Inn
offers educational programs for adults and school groups, numerous special
events, cooking classes, interactive theatre programs, and artist exhibits. Its
meeting rooms and banquet facilities are available for rental. The site also
houses a shop that sells unique gifts for all occasions. For further
