Montgomery’s Inn to host art installation and theatrical performance by youth project on Saturday, June 4

City of Toronto Culture, Montgomery’s Inn, in partnership with Jumblies Theatre
and the Toronto Community Housing Corporation, hosts Where I’m From, a unique
artistic experience, on Saturday, June 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. Where I’m From is the
result of eight weeks of work by a handful of talented artists, two youth
leaders and a group of young community members. Funded through the Ontario
Works Incentive Fund and Theatre Ontario Theatre Training Program, it is part
of a three year community arts project centred at Montgomery’s Inn and the
community of Mabelle.

Led by artist Loree Lawrence and two young people, participants examined their
community and its issues through after-school workshops and discussions with
artists, the community and each other. The work is the culmination of these
experiences.

Visitors on Saturday will enjoy a fanciful blend of visual installation, poetry
and performance as they move through the nineteenth-century environs of
Montgomery’s Inn. The performances will be repeated at intervals throughout the
afternoon.

Following the performance/installation at the Inn, a second event will take
place at the Jumblies Theatre Office Space at 5005 Dundas St. W., just a few
blocks west of the Inn, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Guests are invited see a roundtable
presentation focusing on the artistic and youth engagement process behind this
event and to meet the artists. Light refreshments will be served. For more
information please call 416-203-8428, e-mail jumblies@sympatico.ca or visit
http://www.jumbliestheatre.org.

Along with Lead Artist Loree Lawrence, the young participants created the
performance and installation under the guidance of artists Faye Dupras, Sharada
Eswar, Leah Houston, Noah Keneally, Andy Moro and Liz Rucker.

This youth project was funded by the Ontario Works Incentive Fund through
Montgomery’s Inn and the City of Toronto, and the Theatre Ontario Theatre
Training Program. Additional support is from the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario
Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts, Social Investment Fund of TCHC, John
McKellar Charitable Foundation, Metro Credit Union, and Job Connect.

Montgomery’s Inn is located at 4709 Dundas St. W., two lights north of Bloor
Street, just east of Islington Avenue. For more information, please call
416-394-8113 or e-mail montinn@toronto.ca.
