Four-alarm fire in industrial area of the city

On Thursday, April 21, around 8 p.m., Toronto Fire crews responded to a fire
reported at Esandar Drive and Industrial Street. Crews arrived to find the
building closed with burning garbage inside – the building is used as a garbage
transfer station. The alarm level was quickly upgraded to a three-alarm level,
subsequently reaching a four-alarm level.

More than 80 firefighters were fighting the fire. “The type of material that
was burning is very hard to put out,” said Chief Fry. Currently there are three
fire trucks on the scene and firefighters are removing the burning material
with a front-end loader then hosing down the material with water to ensure that
no hot spots or fire remain.

There have been no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
