Toronto’s holiday celebrations take top honour

For the third year running, Toronto Special Events walked away from the 8th
Annual Canadian Event Industry Star Awards with a major honour for one of its
signature festivals. At the awards ceremony last week, Cavalcade of Lights was
named Most Outstanding Event Over $300,000. The Canadian Event Industry Star
Awards (CEIA) is a national awards program produced by Canadian Event
Perspective Magazine to recognize outstanding achievements in Canadian special
events, meeting management, conference planning and exhibition management.

The annual Cavalcade of Lights sets Toronto aglow with a month-long calendar of
spellbinding events, sparkling lighting displays and one-of-a-kind tour of
Toronto's picturesque neighborhoods. Building on 39 years of holiday tradition
in Toronto, audiences experience the Cavalcade of Lights First Lighting
Celebration in the heart of the city at Nathan Phillips Square. This event
marks the premiere illumination of the Cavalcade of Lights Display, which
includes the radiance of 100,000 lights and the city's official Christmas Tree.
Live music fills revelers with the spirit of the season and a vivid fireworks
display illuminates Toronto City Hall.

In 2004, Cavalcade of Lights expanded citywide with specially designed, energy
efficient lighting displays in seven of Toronto's famous neighbourhood retail
districts. This joint effort, designed to profile Toronto's growing reputation
as one of the hottest destinations in North America, also included the
development of a hop-on, hop-off guided bus tour conveniently linking the
shopping, dining and entertainment experiences offered by each of the
participating neighbourhoods.

Toronto Special Events celebrates the city year-round by producing events and
festivals that showcase the best Toronto has to offer in music, art, culture,
sports, food, theatre and spectacle. From the frosty festivities of WinterCity
to the massive merriment of the Celebrate Toronto Street Festival, Toronto
Special Events creates events that get people into the city and onto the street.
