City of Toronto and CUPE local 79 reach tentative settlement

City negotiators and representatives of Canadian Union of Public Employees CUPE
Local 79 reached a tentative settlement for a new collective agreement earlier
today, Thursday, August 4, 2005.

"This agreement respects the needs of both the workers and the City," said
Mayor David Miller. "It is a very positive sign that we are moving toward a
more co-operative climate for labour negotiations."

Local 79 represents the City of Toronto's inside workers.

The agreement will be put to a ratification vote by the union local, following
which it will be subject to Toronto City Council approval. Details of the new
collective agreement with CUPE Local 79 will be released after it has been
ratified.
