True Davidson Acres gives a new face to a tradition of caring
At an official ribbon-cutting ceremony today, True Davidson Acres, a Toronto
Home for the Aged, celebrated the completion of an extensive, multi-year
renovation project that helps the home put a new face on a tradition of caring.

This redevelopment involved two phases of renovations, and during this process
True Davidson Acres was divided into two sites, the home’s Dawes Road location
and leased space at the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care. Phase 1 was
completed in February 2004, when the residents remaining at Dawes Road moved
into the renovated half of the building. Phase 2 was completed in March 2005,
and residents moved from the Baycrest site back to Dawes Road.

The new True Davidson Acres is now home to 187 residents, who live in 10 "home
areas." Each home area can accommodate from 17 to 21 residents, and features
its own dining room, lounges and activity areas.

Residents can choose from a selection of room styles, including private,
semi-private and basic rooms. All rooms feature ensuite washrooms. As well, the
home now has customized spa areas to make the bathing experience more enjoyable
for residents, and many other special features to enhance the residents’
quality of life.

First opened in 1973, this long-term care home, in the East York area of
Toronto, was designed to take full advantage of the parklands surrounding the
site, and offer residents a panoramic view of the scenic parklands surrounding
the home. These features have been retained in the redeveloped home. Montgomery
Sisam Architects designed the renovations, and Buttcon Ltd. served as the
official construction partner for this project. Funding for this redevelopment
project was provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and
the City of Toronto.

Toronto Homes for the Aged is committed to providing care and services that
respect, support and enable every resident to have the highest level of
independence and quality of life. The True Davidson Acres redevelopment project
is just one of many ways the division is working to bring this commitment to
