Toronto fire fighters help children recover from fire loss

Toronto fire fighters from Station 234, at 40 Coronation Drive, will deliver
gifts to seven children to help them recover after losing their home in a blaze.

Date: Monday, May 30
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Place: Family Residence, (a City-operated family shelter) 4222 Kingston Rd.

Rick Berenz, Executive Officer with the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’
Association will present a $500 cheque. "Toronto fire fighters are stepping up
to the plate to encourage the community to continue helping the Mohammed family
in their time of need," said Berenz.

Toronto Fire Services was called to a townhouse fire at 58 Grenoble Drive just
after 11 p.m. on May 21. Thirteen fire trucks and 52 fire fighters responded.
Damage is estimated to be $150,000. The ignition source is reported to be
fireworks.

"This is another example where mandatory residential sprinklers would have
significantly hindered the fire from spreading throughout the living area,"
said Fire Chief Bill Stewart.
