Sunday Serenades at Mel Lastman Square
  
Sunday Serenades is a weekly concert series at Mel Lastman Square bringing the
smooth sounds of the city’s best swing, big band and jazz acts to Toronto’s
warm summer evenings. Swing dance enthusiasts will have a chance to show off
their dance moves under the stars at these free concerts. Sunday Serenades run
every Sunday between July 17 and August 28 from 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Opening the Sunday Serenade concert stage are The Cadillacs (July 17) who play
jukebox favorites from the ‘50s, ‘60s and beyond. John McNab and the Ralph
Fraser Trio (July 24) puts everyone "In the Mood" by recreating the magic of
Glenn Miller and other favourites. The 17-piece Toronto All-Star Big Band They’
re Playing Our Song Radio Ensemble (July 31) is one of the most exciting bands
around with powerful tributes to the hits of the `30s and `40s. From
contemporary standards, swing, Latin and jazz to ballads and show tunes, The
Philips Westin Orchestra (August 7) delight the most discerning patron with its
live musical presentations. Under the direction of Jules Estrin, the 17-member
Top Brass Orchestra (August 14) will welcome vocalists John Alcorn and Sophia
Perlman for a very special evening. The following week Priscilla Wright and
her "All Girl Orchestra" hits the stage (August 21) under the leadership of
renowned jazz bassist, composer and band leader Rosemary Galloway! The series
finishes with The Mantini Sisters - Sandra, Barbara and Ann - (August 21) who
are best known for their harmonic blend and versatility.

Admission is free. Mel Lastman Square is located at 5100 Yonge Street two
blocks north of Sheppard Avenue. By TTC, take the Yonge Street subway and exit
at North York Centre.

Plus, stop by Nathan Phillips Square for free reusable water bottles to the
first 100 people each Thursday, courtesy of Toronto Water.

Sunday Serenades is one of a series of four free programs that take place in
Nathan Phillips Square and Mel Lastman Square throughout the summer. These all
ages events reflect Toronto’s vibrancy and activity in the summer months.
Canada Day celebrations (Friday, July 1), Fresh Wednesdays (July 13 - August
24), Tasty Thursdays (July 14 - August 25) and Sunday Serenades (July 17 -
August 28) offer a combination of live music, an international BBQ and
fireworks to add to Toronto’s free sensational summer festival line-up.
