Mayor David Miller reacts to Live 8 concert announcement

Days of speculation came to an end today when organizers of Live 8, an
international concert aimed at raising awareness of poverty in the developing
world, announced that their Canadian venue would be at Park Place, near Barrie,
Ontario.

Mayor David Miller, who had been working with organizers to find a venue in
Toronto, expressed his disappointment, as well as his best wishes for a
successful event.

"My office and the City of Toronto did everything in our power to meet the
logistical challenges of bringing Live 8 here. I am disappointed that the show
will not come to Toronto, but I have no doubt that it will be a spectacular and
worthy event.

"I sincerely hope that the speculation over where the concert will be held has
not eclipsed the reason for the show," said Mayor Miller. "Live 8 is about
raising awareness of poverty and debt in the developing world. I would like to
congratulate all of the organizers, performers, volunteers and others who have
demonstrated such commitment to this important cause."
