2005 Human Rights Awards nominations accepted until May 16
Every year Toronto City Council celebrates the actions taken by Torontonians
who are making outstanding efforts to make human rights a reality. Nominations
remain open until May 16 for presentation at the annual Human Rights Awards
presentation to be held on December 5.

Aboriginal Affairs Award
Established in 2003, this award honours the volunteer contributions of a person
or organization whose efforts have made a significant or ongoing contribution
toward improving the quality of life for the Aboriginal community in Toronto.

Access Award for Disability Issues
The Access Award is given to a person or organization whose efforts have
significantly contributed to improving access for people with disabilities in

Constance E. Hamilton Award for Women's Issues
Named after the first woman member of City Council, this award honours
individuals whose actions have been significant in securing equitable treatment
for women in Toronto.

Pride Award for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Transsexual Two Spirited
This award was established in 2003 to honour individuals and/or organizations
that have made or are making a significant or ongoing contribution to the
well-being and advancement of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
transsexual and two spirited communities in Toronto.

William P. Hubbard Award for Race Relations
Named in honour of the City's first African-Canadian councillor, this award is
given to a person whose outstanding achievement and commitment has fostered a
positive race-relations climate in Toronto.

All recipients must be residents of Toronto. The deadline for nomination
submissions is Friday, May 16, 2005.
