Media Advisory - Streetcar rockin' as it rolls Saturday night in support of United Way
Local rock band Westlake is taking a tour of downtown Toronto aboard a 1950s
TTC streetcar reserved for the band this Saturday night. The five-piece band,
which includes a City of Toronto employee, will perform its original songs in
the streetcar (full sound system and all windows wide open). The TTC driver
will stop the car for five or 10 minutes at various locations so the band can
entertain people who gather spontaneously. The decorated streetcar -- a mini
'Festival Express' -- will make its way westbound along Queen Street, with side
tours on other streetcar routes in the downtown core/entertainment district.

Date: Saturday, October 22
Time: 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (photo opportunity)
Streetcar tour runs from 9 p.m. to midnight
Place: TTC's Russell Carhouse streetcar yard, 1433 Queen St. E., at Greenwood
(Media also invited to accompany the band on the tour)

One of the band's members won a TTC United Way raffle for a private chartered
tour aboard a vintage streetcar. Band members decided to use the opportunity
for a good cause as well as a good time. Proceeds from donations (and Westlake
CD sales) Saturday night will go to the United Way. The Toronto Transit
Commission and the City of Toronto's United Way Office are supporting this
creative fundraising event.
