Singing staff to launch City's United Way campaign

The Toronto Public Service will launch its 2005 campaign for the United Way of
Greater Toronto at a musical event on Nathan Phillips Square next week. Ten
City employees will compete in a talent show called City Singers.

Date: Tuesday, September 20
Time: noon to 2 p.m.
Place: Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.

Mayor David Miller and City Manager Shirley Hoy will be the featured speakers
at noon. They will announce the City's fundraising goal for the 2005 United Way
campaign.

Subsequently, judges from the Canadian Idol television program will evaluate
the 10 singers' performances and select three winners.

Members of Toronto Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services will barbecue
hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch on the square, with proceeds going to the
United Way.

The event is open to the general public as well as Toronto municipal
employees.
