City of Toronto and CIBC accepting nominations for the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Community Leadership Awards

The City of Toronto and CIBC today announced a call for nominations for the
Michael "Pinball" Clemons Community Leadership Awards to recognize the
contributions by African-Canadians to community leadership in Toronto.

Co-sponsored by the City of Toronto and CIBC, the awards are named after, and
presented by the Toronto Argonauts' Head Coach, Michael "Pinball" Clemons.
Through his commitment to community initiatives, Clemons is widely regarded as
a public role model for the African-Canadian community and for Canadian youth
at large.

Nominations for the 2006 Michael "Pinball" Clemons Community Leadership Awards
will be accepted until December 1. The Awards will be presented at a special
reception hosted by the City of Toronto in February 2006 in honour of Black
History Month.

The purpose of these awards is to promote visionary leadership in our
communities and to recognize the contributions made by Black individuals of
African heritage to the communities in which they live and work. A total of
four awards in two different categories will be presented to a man and woman of
African descent who have enriched Toronto's diversity through community
leadership. The award categories are Community Leadership and Student Awards.

CIBC has committed $15,000 over three years to this initiative. For 2005 and
2006, CIBC has committed an additional $12,000 to provide a $3,000 scholarship
for each recipient in the Student Award category.
