Children’s Services calendar embraces kids, quality, culture

At a special ceremony held today at City Kids Child Care Centre, Toronto Children’s Services and some of the children in their care, unveiled the Children’s Services 2006 Multi-Ethnic Calendar.

The calendar, which can be purchased for $5, features holidays and festivals that are celebrated around the world by different cultures and communities of common bond. Children enrolled in Children’s Services Municipal Child Care Centres created the artwork for the calendar.

The City of Toronto is one of the most multicultural major cities in the world. Virtually all of the world’s culture groups call Toronto home and more than 100 languages are spoken here. All of these culture groups can be found within the walls of Children’s Services Child Care Centres. This cultural mosaic is something to be proud of and Toronto Children’s Services is celebrating this diversity with the calendar.

“One of the greatest assets Toronto has is the people who live here. It’s the diversity of our citizens that truly makes our city unique. In our child care centres we embrace all children and ensure that everyone has the same access to high quality child care with a focus on early learning care that celebrates our histories, our cultures and our pride,” said Councillor Mihevc, Chair of the Community Services Committee.

The calendar is just one example of the many resources used by the centres to engage the children to participate in projects that are creative and educational, while allowing the children to share their culture with the people around them. At Toronto Children’s Services, kids and quality matter and this calendar is just one way that proves that.
