Tasty Thursdays at Nathan Phillips Square

Celebrate the summer at Nathan Phillips Square with Tasty Thursdays from July
14 to August 25, 2005, noon - 2 pm.

Tasty Thursdays is a weekly event combining delicious food at great prices and
free noon-hour concerts. Each week a selection of Toronto restaurants bring
international cuisine to the Square with food ranging from BBQ to noodles and
stir fry to fresh salads - each available for $5 or less. This combination of
live music and food makes for the perfect lunch hour escape at Nathan Phillips
Square.

The concert series for Tasty Thursdays opens with Juno Award-winning singer /
songwriter and blues-rock guitar virtuoso extraordinaire Derek Miller (July
14). A light, fun mix of bluegrass and Celtic with ska, country-rock, folk and
soaring infectious pop follows with the Clumsy Lovers (July 21). The Truths &
Rights Reggae Review (July 28) is comprised of a group of seasoned pros
(including Mojah and Garry Lowe both ex-Big Sugar) and a venerable who's who of
the Canadian reggae scene. Sophisticated Swing (August 4) are nineteen
musicians and vocalists from the Golden Horseshoe area who have come together
to create an outstanding big band sound playing traditional swing music from
the ‘40s and ‘50s. The Liquidaires (August 11) play a blend of reggae and
calypso in their trademark Caribbean style with New Orleans funk, Colombian
cumbia and even West African influences. Toronto's Andy Stochansky (August 18)
embraces the visionary spirit and charisma of a '70s rock star in the body of a
provocative modern singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Last, but not
least, Juno Award-winning African guitarist Madagascar Slim recently teamed up
to collaborate with Donné Robert under the stage name, Slim et Donné (August
25).

Plus, stop by Nathan Phillips Square for free reusable water bottles to the
first 100 people each Thursday, courtesy of Toronto Water.

Admission is free. Nathan Phillips Square is located at 100 Queen Street West,
easily accessible by the TTC Queen Street car (501), on the Yonge (Queen
Station exit) or the University (Osgoode Station exit) subway lines.

Tasty Thursdays is one of a series of four free programs that take place in
Nathan Phillips Square and Mel Lastman Square throughout the summer. These all
ages events reflect Toronto’s vibrancy and activity in the summer months.
Canada Day celebrations (Friday, July 1), Fresh Wednesdays (July 13 - August
24), Tasty Thursdays (July 14 - August 25) and Sunday Serenades (July 17 -
August 28) offer a combination of live music, an international BBQ and
fireworks to add to Toronto’s free sensational summer festival line-up.
