Call for nominations for the Green Toronto Awards
Nominations for the City of Toronto's inaugural Environmental Awards of
Excellence are now open. Applications can be made online by selecting the Green
Toronto Awards link at
Nominations close Friday, February 25, 2005.

The Green Toronto Awards are an opportunity for committed and dedicated
individuals, community groups / organizations and corporations in the city of
Toronto to be nominated for recognition and reward. The Green Toronto Awards
will honour initiatives that are changing the face of our city and impacting
our environmental health and sustainability.

Whether it's a community leader who saved a green space, an author who
motivated thousands with a compelling call to action, a company that developed
an energy-efficient product, or a neighbourhood youth who made recycling the
thing to do - we want to hear their story.

"The Green Toronto Awards are an excellent way to encourage environmental
leadership and stewardship in our beautiful city." says Deputy Mayor Joe
Pantalone. "As chair of the Roundtable on the Environment, I am pleased to
support these awards that acknowledge the residents, community groups,
organizations and businesses that are working hard to make Toronto a green and
healthy place to live and to keep it that way."

The Green Toronto Awards has eight categories including Leadership, Community
Projects, Green Design, Resource Conservation, Youth, Environmental Awareness,
Health and Market Transformation. Winners will receive a $5,000 contribution to
the environmental organization of their choice as well as recognition at a
ceremony to take place in May 2005 at City Hall.
