Dedicated volunteers to be honoured by City
Mayor David Miller, Toronto City Council and Suhana Meharchand, host of CBC
News: Morning Weekend Edition, will present Toronto Community Service Volunteer
Awards to 10 people and four groups. The awards celebrate invaluable people and
groups who inspire others by investing their time in communities and therefore
adding to the vitality of this city. Mayor Miller and Council will also
acknowledge the Toronto Seniors’ Assembly with remarks from Councillor Gay

Date: Tuesday, April 19

Time: Toronto Seniors’ Assembly acknowledgment - 5 p.m.
Awards presentation – 5:30 p.m.
Reception – 6 p.m.

Place: Toronto City Hall, Council Chamber
100 Queen St. W.

The following people and groups will receive an award at the ceremony: Kwende
Ambrose and John Mighton for children and youth services; Jim Bilimoria, Helen
Morenz and the SexAbility Program Peer Facilitators for community and public
health services; Jane-Finch Tenants Associations, Carmela Lattavo and Jamea
Zuberi for community development/community centre services; The Caring Alliance
and Abdul Chopanzada for housing and homelessness support services; Halim Amini
and Henry Shen for immigrant and newcomer services; and Maria Adelaide Araújo
and Rexdale Ethno-Cultural Seniors for seniors services.

Suhana Meharchand will emcee the ceremony. Councillors Shelly Carroll, Olivia
Chow, Adam Giambrone, Joe Mihevc, Jane Pitfield, Kyle Rae, Karen Stintz and
Michael Thompson will also attend the ceremony. A reception will be held in the
Members’ Lounge following the awards presentation.
