Media Advisory/Photo opportunity: City to recognize Santa's helpers

Most successful year in Christmas Bureau history

Mayor David Miller and Olivia Chow, Chair of the Community Services Committee
and Children's Advocate, will recognize "Santa's helpers" - Christmas Bureau
gift donors and participating community agencies, organizations and members of
the Toronto Public Service who made 2003 the most successful year in Christmas
Bureau history.

Date: Thursday, April 29
Time: 9:45 a.m.
Location: Committee Room 2, 2nd floor, City Hall, 100 Queen
St. W.

Since 1956, the Christmas Bureau has worked with community agencies and
organizations to co-ordinate the distribution of gifts and other donations to
low-income families and children across the city. The Bureau, operated by
Toronto Social Services, connects appropriate donors with registered families
or individuals; communicates with people and organizations requesting or
offering help; and monitors to ensure that sponsor organizations are not
duplicating assistance.
