Cavalcade of Lights sets Toronto aglow this holiday season

Toronto Special Events – The 38th annual Cavalcade of Lights presented by
Scotiabank, running from November 27 to December 31, sets Toronto aglow with a
month-long calendar of spellbinding events, sparkling lighting displays and a
one-of-a-kind tour of Toronto’s picturesque neighbourhoods. The winner of two
2003 International Special Events Society Esprit Awards and two International
Festivals and Events Association Pinnacle Awards, Cavalcade of Lights is one of
the nation’s foremost festivals of light.

Building on decades of holiday tradition in Toronto, audiences are invited to
experience the Cavalcade of Lights First Lighting Celebration in the heart of
the city at Nathan Phillips Square on Saturday, November 27. This event marks
the premiere lighting of the Cavalcade of Lights Display, which includes the
radiance of 100,000 lights and the city’s Official Christmas Tree. Live music
will fill revellers with the spirit of the season and the fireworks of the
Magic of Lights production will illuminate Toronto City Hall.

The festivities continue Saturdays in December with the Saturday Night Festive
Fireworks (December 4, 11 and 18), each reprising the Magic of Light show from
the First Lighting Celebration. The 22nd annual Designs in Ice competition runs
December 27 through 29, transforming Yonge-Dundas Square into a magical fairy
tale. This popular all-ages event will showcase the work of Ontario’s top ice
carvers and feature performances of the UK production, The Candle. Capping off
the calendar of events is the live telecast of Citytv’s Traditional New Year’s
Eve Bash on Friday, December 31 at Nathan Phillips Square.

For those making Toronto their seasonal holiday destination, the Sheraton
Centre Toronto Hotel is offering a special Cavalcade of Lights package. The
Cavalcade of Lights Fireworks Package includes an view of Nathan Phillips
Square for the First Lighting Celebration and a full buffet breakfast for two
at Bistro on Two, parking, two two-day passes for the Cavalcade of Lights tour
and a late check-out time (if available). The Cavalcade of Lights Fireworks
package starts at $195 CDN. To call for inquiries into this offer, the public
can call 1-800-238-5251 (ask for the ‘fireworks rate’). Some conditions and
restriction apply. Taxes and gratuities are extra.

The entire city is marking the season with celebrations and lighting displays
throughout the Cavalcade of Lights event calendar. The city’s residents and
visitors looking to tour the lights and take advantage of Toronto’s sensational
shopping and dining experiences will be treated to the Cavalcade of Lights bus
tour of the city’s famous neighbourhoods. This hop-on, hop-off opportunity
allows for a worry-free seasonal shopping excursion.
