Heroic rescue sends two fire fighters and one civilian to hospital

This morning, at 8:18 a.m., Toronto Fire Services responded to a fire call in
the city's South Command. A young occupant of the house was wakened by a phone
call. When she realized that there was heavy smoke in the home, she quickly
shut her door and called 911.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, they were confronted with smoke coming
from the home and a working fire in the basement. The young lady was trapped on
the second floor by heavy smoke.

Toronto Fire Services crews quickly located the girl and, using buddy
breathing, managed to get her through the heavy smoke to safety.

The girl was transported to Toronto Western Hospital with minor smoke
inhalation. The two fire fighters were transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, one
with minor smoke inhalation, the other for burns to his hand.
