Media Advisory: City of Toronto to honour jazz ambassador Oscar Peterson
On Tuesday June 22, Oscar Peterson will be honoured at a ceremony to rename the
Courtyard at Toronto-Dominion Centre as Oscar Peterson Place. In addition,
Mayor David Miller will proclaim June 22, 2004 as Oscar Peterson Day in
Toronto. Mr. Peterson will be in attendance.

This event, produced by Toronto Culture, initiates the Toronto Poet Laureate's
Naming Project. The purpose of the Naming Project is to honour notable artists
and thinkers who have enriched Toronto's cultural life by embedding their names
in the fabric of the city.

Date: Tuesday, June 22

Time: Noon - Official Ceremony

Location: TD-Canada Trust Stage
Toronto-Dominion Centre Courtyard
66 Wellington St. W.
(between Bay and York Streets)

Immediately following the renaming ceremony will be a performance by the Humber
Studio Jazz Ensemble, directed by Denny Christianson. Albert Schultz, Artistic
Director of the Soulpepper Theatre Company, will emcee the festivities that
will be attended by Toronto Poet Laureate Dennis Lee, Councillor Pam McConnell,
Ward 28, Toronto Centre-Rosedale and Councillor David Soknacki, Ward 43,
Scarborough East.
