Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation now accepting grant applications

The Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation is now accepting grant applications for
a wide range of Toronto park-based community projects. Applications must be
received by April 1, 2004. Recipients will be announced in May.

Grants of $500 to $2,000 will be awarded to community organizations. The
foundation will consider projects in the categories of park improvements;
recreation; environmental education and preservation; arts and culture; and
communication and public education. Projects should be completed by October 1.

"Our public parks and gardens play a vital role in shaping and sustaining civic
life in Toronto," says George Dark, Chair of the Toronto Parks and Trees
Foundation. "The grants program supports community parks projects at the
grass-roots level, providing the opportunity to increase park use and
activities".

The Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation is a not-for-profit organization working
in partnership with the City of Toronto's Parks and Recreation division to
enhance the public park system. The foundation, formed in June 2002, raises
private funds to help improve and create parks; offers recreational,
horticultural, cultural and environmental programs; and supports and encourages
community initiatives in Toronto parkland.

For a grant application, please call 416-397-5178.
