Toronto Fire and Toronto Police appeal to public for help

Today, the Toronto Police Service and Toronto Fire Services jointly held a
media conference to raise public awareness and seek help with a string of
suspected minor arson fires.

So far this year, there have been more than 36 small arson fires, and the
seriousness of these fires is escalating. Those responsible are starting to use
accelerants, and are shifting their arson targets from garbage bins and rubbish
piles to automobiles.

Fire and Police advise residents to:
· report all suspicious activity
· keep front porches and alleys well lit
· keep garages and sheds locked securely
· avoid putting garbage out to the curb until just before pick-up
· clean up any rubbish, and
· call 9-1-1 if they see suspicious behaviour or vandalism.

Captain David Sheen TFS, Office 416-338-9317,
Pager 416-468-9978
