Media Advisory: WinterCity kicks off with a bang and a boom and a WOW
What: Revellers can soak up the fiery energy of Toronto's cosmopolitan vibe and
get outside to help launch this city's newest tradition of urban winter
exuberance with the WinterCity Opening Celebration presented by the Government
of Canada on Friday, January 30 at 7 p.m. at Nathan Phillips Square. This
incredible night will set the stage for 14 days of big city excitement with a
sample of the kind of spectacular entertainment that will be taking over
Toronto. The media is invited to a special dress rehearsal tonight to sneak a
peek of the show.

WinterCity spokespeople
Organizers of the 1st annual WinterCity Festival will be on site to answer
questions and navigate the festival for the media.

6 to 6:30 p.m.
Le Concert de Feu by France's Les Commandos Percu
Get an advance look at France's Les Commandos Percu. The troupe will do a full
run through of their percussive show with testing of pyrotechnics. Les
Commandos Percu manufacture their own instruments and special effects based on
the motion and rhythm of their musical repertoire.

6:30 to 7 p.m.
Zero Gravity Circus
Zero Gravity Circus runs through their choreographed performance against the
architectural backdrop of Toronto's City Hall towers. This beat-heavy show
intertwines an extreme bungee performer, trampoline artists and aerial dancers
with strong fire elements and bold music.

Dare to forget the weather at the party hosted by the world's coolest winter
city. Toronto's newest winter festival, WinterCity, built on the foundation of
the long-running WinterFest, creates a new tradition of winter revelry. Running
from January 30 - February 12, 2004, this 14-day celebration gives centre stage
to the city's renowned culture, creativity and cuisine. With stellar free
indoor and outdoor programming, the hugely popular prix fixe restaurant
promotion Winterlicious presented by American Express plus tons of winter
programming and discounts at Toronto's attractions, WinterCity provides the
perfect opportunity to sample the lush culture and intriguing diversity Toronto
