Media Advisory: Forum shows impact of homelessness on school success

Toronto Shelter Housing and Support and Aisling Discoveries Child and Family
Centre are joined by David Reid, Director of Education, Toronto District School
Board, the Children's Aid Society and agencies working with homeless children
at "Focus on Children: The Impact of Homelessness on School Success." This
one-day forum will take a closer look at the education issues faced by homeless
children from a variety of perspectives, and will focus on both experiences and
strategies for success.

In 2002, almost 5,000 children under 16 stayed in Toronto homeless shelters.
Children change schools frequently and face many obstacles when their families
are experiencing homelessness. Social adjustment, academic progress and
attendance are often significant challenges, and will all be discussed at the
forum.

Date Tuesday, March 30
Time: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Location: Cedarbrook Community Centre
91 Eastpark Blvd. (Markham and Lawrence)
