Fall is a great time to plant
Toronto Parks and Recreation has a number of community planting events
organized this fall and is inviting corporations, community groups, individuals
and families to come out and participate. The plantings take place on the
weekend, starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until about noon. All the equipment
and material are provided. Much of the planting material is donated by the Tree
Advocacy Planting Program.

Volunteers are asked to dress for the weather, wear comfortable clothing,
sturdy close-toed shoes, long pants and bring sunscreen, drinking water and

Saturday, October 2
Riverdale Park East Planting
Tree and shrub planting in the wetland at the bottom of the north slope.
Riverdale Park East is located on the west side of Broadview Avenue, south of
Danforth Avenue.

Saturday, October 2
East Don Parklands Tree and Shrub Planting
Located in the East Don Watershed. Take the walking trail off Pineway Road,
north of Finch Avenue East. Meet at the Old Cummer Bridge (where the trails
cross near the river). Partner: East Don Parkland Partners.

Sunday, October 17
Toronto Islands Sand Dunes Planting
Meet at 10 a.m. outside the ferry terminal gates, city side (located
immediately west of the Westin Harbour Castle at Queen's Quay West and Bay
Street). Ferry ride to Hanlan's Point is free for volunteers. Partners: Toronto
Bay Initiative, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).

Saturday, October 23
Birkdale Ravine Planting
Join Councillor Michael Thompson at the first public tree and shrub planting in
this ravine. Meet at trail head beside Birkdale Community Centre at 1299
Ellesmere Rd., just west of Brimley Road. Parking is available. Partner: TRCA.

Saturday, October 23
Nordheimer Ravine Planting
Join Councillor Michael Walker to plant native trees and shrubs. Nordheimer
Ravine runs south-east from St. Clair Avenue West and Spadina Road to Boulton
Drive (north of Dupont Street and Davenport Road). Partner: Task Force to Bring
Back the Don. Please call 416-338-5053 to register.

Sunday, October 24
Eglinton Flats Planting
Tree and shrub planting at Eglinton Flats, entrance located on the south side
of Eglinton Avenue West, immediately east of Jane Street. Meet in the parking
lot. Partner: Evergreen.

Saturday, October 30
Highland Creek, Markham Branch Tree and Shrub Planting
Meet at 705 Progress Ave., west of Bellamy Road. Parking is available. Partner:
Friends of Highland Creek
