City celebrates 25th anniversary of Port Union Community Recreation Centre

Councillor Ron Moeser (Ward 44 Scarborough East) and City of Toronto representatives invite members of the community to join them for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Port Union Recreation Centre and Library.

Representatives from Port Union Seniors, Toronto Public Library, Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) and the Centennial Community and Recreation Association (CCRA) will also participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick off a week of events:

Event: 25th Anniversary Celebration Reception
Date: Monday, September 21
Time: 6 to 10 p.m.
Ceremony: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Port Union Community Recreation Centre

Event: An Afternoon with Heather Whaley, singer-songwriter and children’s author
Date: Monday, September 21
Time: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Location: Port Union Public Library (Gymnatorium)

Event: An Evening with Rosemary Aubert, author of the Ellis Portal mystery series
Date: Monday, September 21
Time: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Location: Port Union Public Library (Gymnatorium)

Event: Fitness Centre Open House
Date: Wednesday, September 23
Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Event: Creative Visions 2009: Art Show and Sale

Time: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Artists’ reception: 6:30 p.m.

Event: Port Union Waterfront Interpretive Hike and Tree Planting
(Celebrating CCRA’s 60th Anniversary)
Date: Saturday, September 26
Time: Interpretive Hike: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Tree Planting: 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
Starting location is Port Union CRC.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing including long pants and hard-toed shoes. As this is a litterless event, participants are also asked to bring a reusable mug or water bottle. A light lunch will be provided after the tree planting.

Registration for the hike is mandatory. Participants must call 416-396-4031 and leave their names and the number of participants in their group.
