STATEMENT: Mayor Miller responds to issuance of deadline by TCEU Local 416 (CUPE)

Toronto Mayor David Miller responded to the announcement of a Sunday deadline for a settlement that was just announced by the President of the Toronto Civic Employees' Union Local 416 (CUPE). Late today Local 416 stated they will walk away from negotiations if a full settlement is not reached by midnight Sunday. The Local has been on strike since June 22.

"I have stated repeatedly over the past several weeks that the unions needed to bring a sense of urgency to the bargaining table and get on with reaching an agreement," said Mayor Miller. "I am pleased that Local 416 will now bring that sense of urgency to the table. The City has been and remains fully prepared to bargain 24 hours a day to reach an agreement that is fair to our workers and affordable to Torontonians.
