National TV Celebrities, Best-Selling Author and Local Politicians Rally Around Family Literacy Day World Record Attempt at Toronto City Hall
  
Valentyne, Gold and Munsch headline star-studded line-up of guest readers, more Canadians encouraged to join the over 147,000 record-breaking participants estimated across Canada

TORONTO, ON - January 19, 2009 - On Friday, January 23, join ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, Founding Sponsor Honda Canada and Official Family Literacy Day (FLD) World Record Attempt Sponsor, Oxford Learning, at a kick-off event for the FLD World Record Attempt, a national, bilingual initiative encouraging adults and children to engage in 30 minutes of reading together between 2:00 p.m. EST on January 23 and 2:00 p.m. EST on January 24.

The initiative, a prelude to Family Literacy Day 2009 celebrations on January 27, encourages Canadians to read along and help break the Guinness World RecordT for "Most Children Reading with an Adult, Multiple Locations." Canadians across the country have embraced the initiative with hundreds of literacy events planned at schools, libraries, literacy organizations, Oxford Learning Centres, YMCAs, shopping centres, and community centres across the country. To date, over 900 events, with an estimated 147,000 participants, had registered to participate in this record-breaking attempt. The current Guinness World Record of 78,791 was set across the U.S. in 2006.
