Media Advisory: Lifeguards test their skills at the 23rd annual Toronto Lifeguard Competition
Members of the media and Toronto residents are invited to cheer on City of Toronto lifeguards at the 23rd annual Toronto Lifeguard Competition. Each summer, more than 2,500 lifeguards help to keep 1.4 million swimmers safe while using the City’s indoor and outdoor pools. Many of these highly-trained lifeguards will come together to compete in simulated situations and physical events to showcase their skills. The winning teams will represent Toronto at the Ontario Lifeguarding Championship on August 2 and 3.

Date: Tuesday, July 29
Time: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Events: 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. - manikin relay
8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. - first aid
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. - beach flags
10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - lifeguard skills
10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - priority assessment
1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. - water rescue
3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. - mystery event
4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - water rescue finals
Location: Donald D. Summerville Outdoor Pool, Woodbine Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard East
