Media Advisory - Severe storm causes flooding in Sunnyside Park area

Last night’s rainstorm put significant strains on the Western Beaches tunnel resulting in flooding in and around the Sunnyside Park area. Specifically, stormwater mixed with sewage has overflowed and flooding has occurred from Sunnyside Pool, west to the Palais Royale Ballroom, located on Lakeshore Blvd. W.

Toronto Water District Operations staff are on site and working to stabilize the area and assess damage. The public are cautioned to stay away from the area until further notice. The spillage has been reported to the Spill Action Centre and the Board of Health as per standard spill management procedures.

Michael D’Andrea, Director of Water Infrastructure Management will be onsite for media interviews until 11 a.m. Any media wishing to speak with Mr. D’Andrea can find him at Sunnyside Pool (located at the foot of Parkside Dr.).

Additional updates will be provided later this afternoon.
