The City of Toronto will honour Pte. Demetrios Diplaros of Scarborough on Monday by lowering the flags at Toronto City Halland the local Civic Centres to half mast.

“On behalf of all Torontonians and indeed all Canadians I wish to expressdeepest and sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Pte. Diplarosat this difficult time,” said Toronto Mayor David Miller. “Serving one’s country is an incredibly noble calling. Pte. Diplaros answered that call andserved his country with pride, courage and dignity. For that we owe him and all Canadians who have died in overseas service a tremendous debt of gratitude.”

NB: Mayor Miller has requested that flags be flown at half mast on the next business day for all soldiers with Toronto connections. The flag was last lowered for this purpose in June, 2007 to honour Cpl. Stephen Frederick Bouzane.
