Media Advisory: Young women protégées to scrutinize Council in action
About 20 young women who are participating in the Toronto Regional Champion Campaign, partnered with women City councillors, will attend City Council’s meeting on December 1. This occasion, when program participants are together at City Hall, will provide an opportunity for interested media to talk one-to-one with program participants.

Date: Monday, December 1
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Council’s morning session)
Place: Council Chamber, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.

The young women are also scheduled to attend a lunchtime event in a committee room at 12:30 p.m., where they will hear guest speakers.

Mayor David Miller and the City’s 10 women councillors launched the Toronto Regional Champion Campaign this past September as an initiative to help increase women’s participation in municipal government. The women councillors are mentoring 26 young women for a year on the role of a municipal councillor. Councillor Pam McConnell, who chairs the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Committee on Women's Participation, took the lead in organizing Toronto’s version of the Regional Champion program.
