Media Advisory - Breaking the cycle of youth violence

Councillor Michael Thompson has invited the Honourable Serge LeClerc, a Saskatchewan MLA and Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing to address Toronto City Councillors, GTA MPPs and MPs, City staff and Toronto school trustees at City Hall on Thursday.

Mr. LeClerc is a former gang leader, drug king-pin and addict who spent 21 years in many of Canada’s toughest prisons. He turned his life around to earn a university education and build a career helping children and their families in Canada and abroad. His outstanding transformation earned him a pardon in 2000, and in the 2007 provincial election, he won a seat in the Saskatchewan Legislature.

An acknowledged expert on youth crime, Mr. LeClerc will share his ideas on breaking the cycle of youth violence that is afflicting the GTA’s at risk neighbourhoods.

Date: Thursday, February 21
Time: 1 p.m.
Location: Council Chamber, City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.
