Statement from Mayor Miller on disaster in Myanmar (Burma)

"On behalf of all Torontonians, I want to extend deepest sympathies to the people of Myanmar and to the estimated 1,900 Torontonians of Burmese descent who may have friends and family in the region," said Toronto Mayor David Miller. "Disasters like this remind us all that we are truly a Global Village and nothing happens anywhere in the world that doesn't have an impact somewhere else. As one of the world's most multicultural cities, Toronto is especially sensitive to global crises of this magnitude."

Mayor Miller has asked the City Manager to determine the most appropriate way for the city to respond under the terms of the International Disaster Relief Policy approved by Council in 2006 and in close co-operation with other orders of government and relevant organizations.
