Media Advisory - First-annual Ecuadorian National Day in Toronto
Councillor Cesar Palacio, (Ward 17 - Davenport) will participate in the first-annual Ecuadorian National Day in Toronto, as part of a Friendship City agreement between the City of Toronto and the City of Quito, Ecuador. The Ecuadorians Association of Ontario together with the City will host a flag-raising ceremony followed by a festival featuring cultural performances, displays of Ecuadorian arts and crafts, and traditional Ecuadorian cuisine.

Date: Friday, August 8, 2008
Time: Flag-raising ceremony 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m., Ecuadorian festival 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Location: Toronto City Hall Square, 100 Queen St. W.

Speakers will include Councillor Cesar Palacio, Mirian Esparza, Consul General of Ecuador; and Patricio Viera, President of the Association of Ecuadorians in Ontario.

The City of Toronto and the City of Quito, formed a Friendship Agreement in 2006 to promote cultural understanding, educational exchange and economic relations between the two cities and to celebrate the vibrant culture of the Ecuadorian people. Approximately 100,000 Ecuadorians reside in Ontario.
