An Evening at the Papermill - A Fundraising Event for Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre

Renowned Canadian playwright Dave Carley will be at the Papermill Theatre Tuesday, June 3 for a performance of his compelling drama, After You. Performed by Todmorden's resident theatre company, East Side Players, this special presentation is a fundraiser to support the establishment of a playwright-in-residence program at Todmorden Mills, planned for autumn 2008.

The Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre Community Management Board invites you to meet and mingle with Dave Carley at a post-performance reception featuring prize draws, complimentary refreshments and a cash bar.

Dave's plays have been produced in Canada, the United States and around the world. His works include Writing with our Feet, Taking Liberties, After You, The Last Liberal, and an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's The Edible Woman. His drama Orchidelirium premiered in 2004 and received three Dora nominations, including one for Best New Play. His show, Conservatives in Love, was a sell-out hit at the 2007 Toronto Fringe.

After You is a two-act drama about cousins Adele and Jean who return to their family cottage on Lake Kawartha for one last time. Adele is dying and Jean, who cares for her, is determined that her cousin's last summer will end with grace. But too many memories intrude as the pair relives the summer of 1938 when one young man determined the paths of their lives.

East Side Players is one of Toronto's longest-established community theatre groups, engaging audiences for almost 40 years. Performing at Todmorden Mills since the 1970s, East Side Players has produced more than 175 shows, including comedies, dramas, mysteries, thrillers and even original musical revues.

Doors open at 6:45 pm. Dave Carley will introduce After You at 7:30 pm in the Papermill Theatre. The performance will begin at 8 pm. Seating is available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Telephone reservations can be secured with VISA or MasterCard by calling the Papermill Theatre at 416 396-2819, Monday to Friday from 9 to 4 pm; Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4:30 pm. Tickets are $30 (includes GST); all sales are final. In-person sales are available at the box office Wednesday through Friday from noon to 4 pm; Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4:30 pm.

The Papermill Theatre is located at 67 Pottery Road between Broadview and Bayview.
