The deadline of 5 p.m. today passed with 293 candidates registered for the
positions of mayor, city councillor and school board trustee for the City of
Toronto election on November 13.

There are 28 candidates registered for mayor, 145 candidates registered for
city councillor, and 120 candidates running for trustee in the four Toronto
school boards (English public, English separate, French public and French
separate).

The official list of candidates, including acclamations, will be released after

on Monday, October 16.

Today, however, two wards remain with only one candidate each for city
councillor. Ward 27 (Toronto Centre-Rosedale) has Kyle Rae registered, and Ward
43 (Scarborough East)has David Soknacki as the only registered candidate.

The Toronto District School Board has only one candidate registered in York
Centre. As well, the French separate board and French public boards both have
just one candidate in two wards each.

A complete list of all candidates is available on the City's Web site at: http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/vote 2000.

Continuous advanced voting begins October 23 at City Hall and the five civic
centres. Voters are also reminded to check the voters' list by calling
