Media Advisory: City of Toronto Announces Toronto Book Awards Winner
Councillor Pam McConnell, on behalf of Mayor Mel Lastman and Toronto City
Council, will announce the winner of the 2000 Toronto Book Awards at the Word
On The Street festival this Sunday.

Date: Sunday, September 24

Time: 12 noon

Location: Citytv's main stage
(corner of Queen and John Sts.)

The five short-listed authors are: Jennifer Duncan, Sanctuary & Other Stories;
Greg Gatenby, Toronto - A Literary Guide; Camilla Gibb, Mouthing the Words;
Conrad E. Heidenreich, Betty I. Roots and Donald A. Chant, Special Places: The
Changing Ecosystems of the Toronto Region; Russell Smith, Young Men.

The authors' works are all evocative of Toronto, one of the founding criteria
for the Toronto Book Awards. The Awards were established in 1974 and offer
$15,000 in prize money, making it one of the richest book awards in Canada.
