City of Toronto Honours Outstanding Volunteers
In a special awards ceremony today Mayor Mel Lastman and members of Toronto
City Council honoured 21 dedicated volunteers. The recipients, ranging in age
from 17 to 88, each received a newly-designed City of Toronto award.

"Volunteers are a vital part of the spirit of our great city," said Mayor Mel
Lastman. "Our wonderful volunteers give their time and their talent. They care
about people and our city and help make Toronto the greatest city in the world."

The City of Toronto Volunteers of the Year Awards program, jointly sponsored by
the City of Toronto and the Volunteer Centre of Toronto, recognizes the
outstanding contribution volunteers make to various agencies, organizations,
institutions and neighbourhoods.

Recipients were chosen based on length of service, quality or commitment, and
additional volunteer activities.
