Negotiations to Continue City of Toronto and CUPE, Local 79 Agree to Continue Negotiations

A 72 hour extension in negotiations has been agreed upon by the City of Toronto
and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 79.

March 26, 2000 was the earliest the City of Toronto could legally lock out CUPE
Local 79 staff or that the Union would have been be in a legal strike position.

The agreement to continue negotiations means that no labour disruption will
take place at the present time.

On March 22, 2000, the City of Toronto released a detailed contingency plan in
case of a labour disruption. The complete text of the City's Labour Disruption
Contingency Plan is available on the City of Toronto Web site.

Updates for residents and businesses will be available on the Access Toronto
