City of Toronto - snow clearing update

Plows and salt trucks worked through the night and continue their efforts this
morning as the City of Toronto digs out of the first major snowstorm of the
winter.

As the morning rush hour arrived, the City's winter operations vehicles had
plowed and salted all major arterial roads and continued to plow collector
roads and local roads.

The City's first priority is to clear the major roads for emergency and Toronto
Transit Commission vehicles.

The City expects most of the snow clearing effort to be completed by the end of
the day.

Considering the severity of the storm, traffic seemed to move fairly well
during the morning rush hour.

"Our crews worked hard throughout the night to make travel conditions as safe
and effective as possible," said Gary Welsh, Director of Transportation
Services, City of Toronto. "We're pleased with how smoothly everything has
worked.

"The strong gusts of wind have caused some drifting problems and additional
snow clearing will need to be done as the day progresses."
