City of Toronto Announces United Way Goal
Toronto City Councillor Jane Pitfield, Parks and Recreation general manager
Claire Tucker-Reid and other United Way supporters gathered in Nathan Phillips
Square today to launch the City of Toronto's 2000 Employee United Way Campaign.

The City's United Way committee hopes to raise $800,000 for the United Way of
Greater Toronto through the efforts and generosity of hundreds of City
employees. The City also presented this year's Greater Toronto United Way
Campaign Chair Charles Baillie with cheques totalling $92,500 from fund-raising
events that took place during the summer.

"I'm honoured to be part of this year's campaign," said Councillor Pitfield.
"The United Way is an important component of our community. I encourage
everyone to support the campaign and make a difference."

The United Way of Greater Toronto is the primary source of funds for local
health and social service agencies, supporting more than 200 community
agencies. The City of Toronto is proud to be a supporter and hopes to build on
the successes of past campaigns. The City was recently recognized as one of the
top 25 donors to the community through the United Way.
