Celebrate Water Month at the R. L. Clark Water Filtration Plant

Works and Emergency Services --- Celebrate Water Month (June) at an open house
at the R. L. Clark Water Filtration Plant on Saturday, June 10, 2000 from 10:00
a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The plant is located at Twenty Third Street (south of Lake
Shore Boulevard) on the shore of Lake Ontario.

Half-hour tours will show guests how the water filtration process works, from
the raw-water intake from Lake Ontario to the pumps that send clean water
throughout the city. The first tour will begin at 10:00 a.m., then every
half-hour until the last tour at 1:30 p.m.

Participants will be invited to "Take the Taste Test Challenge" to see if they
can tell the difference between tap water, filtered water and bottled water.
Interactive displays on water quality and water efficiency will also be
available.

Constructed from 1962 to 1968, the R. L. Clark Filtration Plant was named for
Mr. Ross Leopold Clark, Commissioner of Works for the former Metro Toronto from
1956 to 1979.
