Media Advisory: City Of Toronto's Road and Trail Safety Ambassadors Host Large Truck Safety Demonstration
Members of the media are invited to attend the "Size Matters" large truck
safety demonstration at the following location:

Date: Thursday, July 13
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Nathan Phillips Square
100 Queen Street West

Hosted by The Road and Trail Safety Ambassadors and the Toronto Cycling
Committee, the large truck safety campaign is aimed at reducing the number of
collisions and fatalities between large vehicles and cyclists, pedestrians and
in-line skaters. The 1998 Coroner's Report stated that 37 per cent of fatal
cyclist collisions involved large vehicles.

Demonstrations will focus on size, turning and manoeuvrability, noise,
visibility and blind spots of large trucks and vehicles. Members of the public
are invited to climb aboard one of the city's vehicles to see how large blind
spots can be and to experience noise levels associated with these vehicles.

The Road and Trail Safety Ambassadors are a safety and public outreach team who
provide information to all road and trail users - cyclists, pedestrians,
motorists and in-line skaters. The large truck safety campaign is run in
conjunction with the Toronto Police and Corporate Services' Fleet Management
