Media Advisory: Thousands of Toronto Restaurants are Getting Ready for the New 2001 Green-Yellow-Red Inspection Notices

Toronto Public Health --- The Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Sheela Basrur,
will host a press conference Monday launching a series of 20 Information
Sessions to help restaurant owners get ready for Toronto's new
green-yellow-and-red inspection and disclosure system.

Several thousand restaurateurs have signed up for these sessions where Public
Health Inspectors will explain how the new system works. This educational
program is the most extensive effort ever made in Canada to introduce a public
health initiative to the restaurant industry.

The information sessions are the first phase of the City's new inspection
system, which includes offering the public on-site access to inspection
information.

Dr. Basrur will provide complete information kits to the media, including
copies of the new owner/operator's guide "How to Pass Your 2001 Public Health
Inspection."

DATE: Monday, November 6, 2001

TIME: 2 p.m.

PLACE: Metro Hall, 55 John St., 2nd Floor foyer, outside Council Chamber
