Starting on Friday, September 22 and concluding on Saturday, September 23, the
St. Lawrence Market and the St. Lawrence Market Neighbourhood are hosting the
third annual Global Roots Festival, a celebration of cultures, food and dance
from around the world.
Front Street, between Jarvis and Church Streets, will be transformed into a
bustling market, with more than 24 Toronto multi-cultural communities,
performing traditional folk dancing on stage and displaying their own crafts
and food specialties along the street.
Sponsored by the Folks Arts Council of Toronto, some of the communities
featured include: African, Armenian, Barbados, Chinese, Chilean, Czech, Danish,
Egyptian, Finnish, German, Hawaiian, Jamaican, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian,
Macedonian, Spanish, Scottish, Serbian, Philippines, Polish, Portuguese,
Russian and Ukrainian.
On Sunday, September 24, the Scotiabank Half and Waterfront Marathon will take
place with over 5,000 runners raising funds for the Marvelle Koffler Breast
Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital. The run will start and finish in the St.
Lawrence Market Neighbourhood.
The St. Lawrence Market is located at Front and Jarvis Streets. For more
